Sanrakshan has been operating a Child Care Institution (CCI) in the available space at Government Higher Primary & High School Juganahalli Rajajinagar, Bangalore for past three years. The approach is non-custodial, participatory and inclusive. The CCI currently provides shelter, schooling, medical and counseling support to benefit 51 girls of aged 7-18 from vulnerable backgrounds. These girls’ mothers are working as domestic workers or casual laborers.

The CCI addresses a significantneed within vulnerable families from the surrounding community. The children are provided withhealthy and nutritious meals, and their schoolwork is monitored in the evenings, with remedial classes given to those in need. In the CCI, there is a Child Protection Committee in place to address any perceived abuse, along with an individual care plan for each child.
A quarterly Parents’ Day helps to reassuremothers that their children are in good health and doing well. Proper case management and records are maintained. An experienced counselor comes in weekly to hold both individual and group counseling sessions. The children are presented to the Child Welfare Committee, Bangalore monthly, which monitors children in institutional care. Sanrakshan also holds weekend online classes in conversational English for the girls to improve their language skills as English is essential for their studies and future work life.
